Today is the 1st day of spring but with the warm temperatures we’ve been enjoying lately, you’d think summer had already arrived! Whether you are a business or home owner, you want to make sure that you can rely on your air conditioning to stay comfortable when the time comes to turn it on! Blue Valley Heating & Cooling of Longmont offers thorough and affordable air conditioner tune up service for residential and commercial systems.  Popular Mechanics offers the following suggestions to ensure your AC will run efficiently this summer:

Spring Checklist for Air Conditioner Tune Up

  1. Change the filter in the blower unit. Filters should be checked every month, or more for allergen-reducing types. If the airflow is severely restricted by a clogged filter, the cooling coil could ice over and shut down the system.
  2. Clear away any overgrown plants or debris around the exterior condenser to create an unobstructed radius of two feet around the unit. Spray out any collected debris with a hose.
  3. Check the registers for mold or anything that got into the ductwork that shouldn’t have. Also inspect the ductwork in the attic and basement to ensure there are no holes, gaping seams or corrosion.
  4. Test the condensate-removal system. If your blower unit is in the basement, it either disposes of moisture through a gravity-fed or pump-driven drain. On a pump system, move the float to be sure it is functioning properly. If the blower is in the attic, or has no drain in the pan, it probably has a kill switch you will want to test- especially to prevent overflow onto your ceiling. The system should turn off if water reaches the sensor in the collection pan.

If you notice corrosion, leaks or improper operation during your spring inspection, you will need to call a professional HVAC technician. Should you like to save yourself the extra work upfront and give yourself the peace of mind that your unit is functioning optimally, schedule an air conditioner tune up with Blue Valley Heating & Cooling of Longmont this spring!
