Geothermal Energy in Northern Colorado

Geothermal systems harness the Earth’s natural heat to provide an efficient and sustainable source of energy. Geothermal energy revolutionize the way we heat and cool our homes and buildings.

There are many reasons why we are lucky to live in the beautiful state of Colorado. One of these reasons is the geothermal energy is an option for heating and cooling our homes and businesses. Blue Valley Heating & Cooling of Longmont is a local industry leader in geothermal systems installation for residential and commercial properties all along the Front Range. Below is a summary of the article “Energy-Efficient Apartments Choose Geothermal System” from the Bosch Pro HVAC blog on June 19, 2017.

Example of Residential Geothermal Energy in Northern Colorado

There is a new apartment complex in Brighton, Colorado, that uses geothermal energy to heat and cool the 252 units in 12 buildings. The Solaire Apartments have 112 geothermal wells. This system provides 326 tons of heating/cooling capacity instead of tapping into the city’s power supply. Each apartment has its own 252 Bosch BP Series water-to-air geothermal heat pump in a small closet.

“While the first costs of installing geothermal to serve the Solaire residences was more expensive than conventional HVAC, the ability to eliminate a portion of the per-unit energy costs makes our community more affordable for residents,” said Brock Vinton, developer of Solaire. “As energy costs rise in the future, we believe that the sustainable aspects of Solaire will help us in tenant retention and overall cost competitiveness in our marketplace.”

The energy bill for a one-bedroom Solaire apartment will only be $110 per year. A two or three-bedroom units’ owners will spend about $160/year. The low cost of geothermal energy for residential heating and cooling needs is attractive to renters and homeowners alike!
